About The Position

The Labor and Delivery Surgical Technologist at Tufts Medicine plays a crucial role in the peri-operative procedures for childbirth. Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Before July 1, 2013, employed as a surgical technologist in a surgical facility; OR successfully completed a training program for surgical technology in the military; OR graduated from an accredited Surgical Tech Program.
• 0 to less than 12 months of healthcare experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Responsibilities

• Selects and prepares the appropriate supplies and equipment for surgical cases.
• Scrubs on surgical cases, organizes instrumentation for the surgeon, participates in surgical counts, and performs related activities under the direction of the surgeon.
• Assists the circulator with positioning, obtaining needed items during surgery, and room turnover activities when not participating in surgical cases.
• Participates in Labor & Delivery activities related to quality improvement, continuing education, orientation of new personnel, and emergency preparedness.
• Maintains current knowledge in surgical aseptic technique, peri-operative procedures in Labor & Delivery, and pre-operative patient care.
• Cleans and restocks LDR rooms after a patient has delivered and is transported to another area.
• Cleans and restocks C-section room after surgery is completed and the patient is transferred to the recovery area.
