About The Position

The Laboratory Animal Attendant position at the University of Minnesota is responsible for the care and maintenance of laboratory animals, ensuring compliance with safety, sanitation, and research protocols. This role involves feeding, observing, and caring for various lab animals, operating specialized equipment, and maintaining accurate records. The position requires adherence to strict protocols and may involve occasional weekend and holiday work.

Requirements

  • Must be able to lift/push 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions in English.
  • Must be available to work an early schedule, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, with occasional weekends and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Three months of education related to laboratory animals or experience caring for, cleaning, feeding, monitoring, and medicating animals.
  • Experience with rodents.

Responsibilities

  • Feed, care for, and observe the physical condition of laboratory animals for signs of disease or illness.
  • Operate cage and bottle washers, autoclaves, and bedding dispensing/disposal equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate records related to animal care and facility management.
  • Participate in and perform euthanasia of small animals as required.
  • Order and store feed and supplies for laboratory animals.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment, rooms, and facilities as needed.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
