About the position

The Laboratory Assistant position at Hudson Valley Community College's Aeronautical Technical Institute involves supporting instructors and staff in maintaining laboratory operations at the Albany International Airport. The role includes managing laboratory equipment, assisting with curriculum development, and ensuring a safe and organized working environment for students and faculty.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring lab activities for safe working conditions and stopping unsafe activities immediately.
  • Maintaining an updated list of HAZMAT and sharing this inventory with the Environmental Health & Safety Office.
  • Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing tools, training boards, and aircraft for wear or defects.
  • Preparing and maintaining the laboratory and assisting instructors during lab use.
  • Organizing and maintaining cleanliness and safety of storage areas and laboratories.
  • Maintaining records of departmental equipment, aviation maintenance manuals, and repair logs.
  • Monitoring consumable stock and coordinating with the Lead Instructor for adequate supplies.
  • Assisting faculty and students during lectures and labs, including printing documents as needed.
  • Using Microsoft Office Suite for departmental functions and activities.
  • Preparing routine and yearly supply orders and executing bidding procedures when appropriate.
  • Unpacking and inventorying deliveries to the ATI.
  • Rotating perishable items while maintaining quality control.
  • Monitoring waste disposal to ensure conformity to environmental standards.
  • Performing other duties as assigned relevant to the success of the ATI.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated prior employment relating to mechanical aptitude and administrative/clerical work.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office - Word, Outlook & Excel.
  • Excellent writing, mathematical, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for high-level internal and public contact.
  • High degree of organizational skill and attention to detail.
  • Ability to cope with simultaneous and competing work demands.
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a TSA SIDA airport security badge.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree and two or more years of paid work experience in a maintenance setting with administrative duties.
  • Aviation experience or fleet vehicle maintenance experience.
  • Desire to obtain an Aircraft Airframe and Powerplant Certificate.
