About the position

The Laboratory Assistant position at Clemson University is an entry-level role focused on supporting research in the biological sciences, specifically studying animal protozoan pathogens. The assistant will work closely with the Principal Investigator and other lab members to conduct various molecular, cellular, and animal model research tasks, contributing to the overall research objectives of the lab.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out cell culture procedures, in vitro assays and maintain mammalian cell lines and parasite strains.
  • Perform and assist in experiments using standard molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, molecular cloning, western blotting, and protein expression and purification.
  • Operate various preparative and analytical instrumentations, ship reagents and parasite strains, and help the principal investigator inspect lab safety issues.
  • Unpack received items, clean and organize the lab, and manage inventory bookkeeping.
  • Prepare tissue culture reagents and media and commonly used reagents and buffers for molecular biology.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 0+ years work experience in a related health care setting or in a clinical or research laboratory setting; or 12 semester hours of academic training in biology and/or chemistry; or registration as a Certified Laboratory Assistant by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or an equivalent registry; or successful completion of a formal program of instruction for laboratory assistants.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or related majors.
  • 1+ years of college laboratory research experience.
