About the position

The Laboratory Assistant II position at Kaiser Permanente involves performing venipuncture and skin puncture, as well as managing pre-analytical and post-analytical steps of laboratory testing. This part-time evening role is essential for ensuring accurate laboratory results and maintaining patient care standards.

Responsibilities

• Upholds Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable laws.
• Selects appropriate phlebotomy techniques based on patient age and physical condition.
• Assesses blood quality for drawing based on patient characteristics and testing requirements.
• Performs venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick proficiently on patients of all ages.
• Labels samples correctly and transports them to the laboratory or Clinical Laboratory Scientist as required.
• Conducts pre-analytical testing phases including bar coding, centrifuging, separating, logging, culturing, and staining specimens.
• Monitors and maintains inventory levels of supplies and reagents.
• Establishes and maintains courteous relations with patients and staff.
• Performs additional duties such as checking in patients, collecting revenue, and providing preparation instructions.
• Handles difficult patients professionally and maintains a professional demeanor at all times.

Requirements

• One (1) year of phlebotomy experience in an acute care medical center or equivalent military experience.
• High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
• Phlebotomy Technician II Certificate (California) OR Phlebotomy Technician I Certificate (California).
• Demonstrated ability to perform job duties at a satisfactory performance level.
