The Laboratory Assistant II position at Norman Regional Health System is a part-time role focused on supporting laboratory operations during weekend nights. Responsibilities

  • Receives and assesses all specimens for integrity into the laboratory.
  • Distributes all acceptable specimens to appropriate lab sections.
  • Aliquots, prepares and stores all specimens for referral testing.
  • Performs waived testing.
  • Obtains specimens by venipuncture when OPDS lab assistants are off duty.
  • Reports to Laboratory Central Processing Coordinator or supervisor on duty.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Some knowledge of medical terminology.
  • 3 months phlebotomy experience, or a phlebotomy certificate with 32 hours of clinical rotation, or 6 months experience in a medical field providing patient care which includes drawing blood or blood processing, or current MLT student in clinical rotations, or one or more college level courses in a biological science.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
