About the position

The Laboratory Assistant Regional/Phlebotomy position is a full-time role responsible for performing phlebotomy and specimen processing tasks within the laboratory department. The role requires a high school diploma and previous phlebotomy experience, focusing on maintaining specimen integrity and accurate data entry. The assistant will interact with patients and clinical staff, ensuring proper specimen handling and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain specimens correctly while maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Verify accurate patient information and label specimens correctly.
  • Perform accurate data entry for patient information, requested tests, and specimen accessioning into the LIS.
  • Assist patients with questions and provide instructions on specimen collection and handling.
  • Process specimens to achieve maximum accuracy, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Track and maintain records and reports, documenting any problems or resolutions.
  • Respond to inquiries from physicians and clinical staff in a timely manner.
  • Utilize reference materials and telephone support for handling unusual tests.
  • Maintain a clean, well-stocked, and orderly work environment.
  • Adhere to safety standards in handling biohazardous specimens.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience is required.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and data entry skills.
  • Knowledge of specimen collection, requirements, integrity, and handling.

Nice-to-haves

  • A minimum of one year experience as a phlebotomist, Laboratory Assistant, or Laboratory Specimen Processor.
  • Ability to adapt to multiple computer systems.
