About the position

The Laboratory Assistant - Sample Prep position is responsible for the receipt and preparation of laboratory specimens, ensuring sample integrity and maintaining the chain of custody. This role involves verifying demographic information, assisting with sample preparation, and performing quality assurance checks, all while adhering to safety protocols in a potentially biohazardous environment.

Responsibilities

• Accession all samples received.
• Review all requisitions for discrepant information.
• Forward samples to the correct area within the lab or label and forward to outside laboratories.
• Biobanking and archiving patient samples.
• Perform quality assurance checks of samples.
• Maintain sample chain-of-custody.
• Ship and receive samples.
• Prepare laboratory solutions (if trained and required).
• Pipet samples and solutions (if trained and required).
• Perform routine maintenance and quality control.
• Assist laboratory staff as needed.
• Communicate effectively with internal personnel to identify & promptly resolve issues.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED; college coursework in natural science preferred.
• General understanding of the technology used in laboratory tests.
• Ability to promote teamwork in a multi-disciplinary team setting.
• Ability to make well-thought out decisions, and adapt to changing environments and requirements.
• Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Manual dexterity.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Familiarity with Cenetron LIMS.
