The Laboratory Assistant at Sonic Anatomic Pathology plays a crucial role in managing patient specimens and ensuring accurate data entry for technical testing. The role involves verifying and logging patient requisitions, preparing specimens, and maintaining data integrity within the information system. Responsibilities

  • Receives, verifies, logs, and collects patient requisitions and specimens for technical testing.
  • Opens and inspects all specimens to assure an accurate specimen count.
  • Verifies patient requisitions for completeness of patient, client, and insurance information.
  • Prepares and sorts patient requisitions, identifying and interpreting data for entry into the information system.
  • Follows proper procedures with specimen rejection if information is submitted incorrectly.
  • Enters data from patient requisitions and insurance cards into the information system following the displayed format.
  • Reviews data entered with source documents and/or error reports and makes necessary corrections.
  • Labels requisitions, specimen containers, cassettes, and/or slides, and affixes coverslips to slides.
  • Routes patient requisitions after entry.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (minimum)
  • State licensure, if applicable.
  • At least 2 years of practical clinical or anatomic pathology laboratory experience preferred.
