About the position

The Laboratory Assistant at Solaris Health plays a crucial role in supporting Laboratory Technicians by managing specimen processing and clerical duties. This position requires multitasking abilities and adherence to regulatory standards, ensuring accurate and timely handling of laboratory specimens while maintaining patient confidentiality and compliance with health regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Order required testing, label, and process specimens accurately and timely.
  • Exercise independent judgment in dealing with procedural and technical problems.
  • Dispose of hazardous chemical waste per regulatory guidelines.
  • Comply with all State, Federal, and professional regulations, as well as company and departmental rules, policies, and procedural manuals.
  • Adhere to CAP, CLIA, State Regulations, HIPAA, Safety, and OSHA Regulations.
  • Participate in educational activities.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Act as a team player by collaborating and communicating clearly with team members.
  • Enhance communications by displaying excellent customer service skills.
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some college, business, or technical training preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with laboratory staff.
  • Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.
  • Skill in using computer programs and applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to listen, read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with team members, physicians, vendors, clients, and external agencies.
  • Ability to accession specimens.
  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
  • Customer-oriented with the ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Lab assistant experience is preferred.
