About the position

The Laboratory Assistant at HCA Florida Woodmont Hospital plays a crucial role in supporting the healthcare team by performing specimen collection and testing, ensuring accurate documentation, and providing patient education. This part-time position involves working rotating weekends and day shifts, contributing to the overall patient care experience in a clinical laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

• Collecting blood specimens through venipuncture and skin puncture methods on patients of all ages.
• Completing appropriate specimen collection documentation accurately.
• Following established procedures for patient identification and specimen collection based on test orders.
• Educating patients and/or families regarding specimen collection procedures prior to obtaining specimens.
• Utilizing the computer information system for job-related functions.
• Performing clerical duties such as faxing, answering phones, and managing reports.
• Reviewing the Outstanding Specimen Report (OSR) and addressing pending specimen collections or accessioning issues.

Requirements

• A completed high school diploma or GED is required.
• A vocational/technical diploma is preferred.
• A phlebotomy certificate is beneficial but not mandatory.
• Less than 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting is required.
• Strong time management and customer service skills are essential.
