About the position

The Laboratory and Medical Director at Guardant Health is responsible for providing clinical leadership and oversight of laboratory services and operations. This role ensures compliance with regulations, oversees patient care, clinical trials, and research operations, and is pivotal in the development and validation of multiple products across various locations. The director will also act as a temporary Laboratory Director when needed, ensuring quality laboratory services and maintaining a safe working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Act as temporary Laboratory Director in absence of the Laboratory Director.
  • Delegate responsibilities of Technical Supervisor, General Supervisor, Clinical Consultant, and Testing Personnel to qualified employees.
  • Ensure all Clinical Laboratory duties are properly performed.
  • Provide onsite, telephone, or electronic consultation as needed.
  • Ensure quality laboratory services for all aspects of test performance.
  • Guarantee appropriate physical and environmental conditions in the Clinical Laboratory.
  • Confirm test methodologies provide quality results for patient care.
  • Verify adequate verification procedures for accuracy and precision of methods.
  • Ensure laboratory personnel perform test methods for accurate results.
  • Participate in proficiency testing programs and review results for corrective action.
  • Establish and maintain quality control and quality assessment programs.
  • Ensure acceptable levels of analytical performance for each test system.
  • Document remedial actions for deviations from established performance characteristics.
  • Ensure reports of test results include necessary interpretation information.
  • Provide consultation to clients regarding test results and their interpretation.
  • Ensure on-site supervision of high complexity testing by a General Supervisor.
  • Employ sufficient laboratory personnel with appropriate education and experience.
  • Ensure personnel have appropriate training and competency for testing operations.
  • Maintain an approved procedure manual for testing processes.
  • Perform biennial review of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Report concerns of test quality and/or safety to the Laboratory Supervisor or Safety Officer.

Requirements

  • Must be a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy licensed to practice in California.
  • Must be certified in Anatomic or Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology or equivalent qualifications.
  • At least one year of laboratory training during medical residency or two years of experience directing high complexity testing.
  • Hold a doctoral degree in a relevant scientific field and be certified by a board approved by HHS.
  • Must fulfill requirements stated in 42 CFR 493.1443 and the College of American Pathologists Checklist.
