About the position

The Laboratory Information System Tech Specialist at Bassett Medical Center plays a crucial role in enhancing patient care through the effective implementation and support of the Laboratory Information System (LIS). This position involves coordinating with end users, managing system integrations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards while supporting the Core Lab and Point of Care testing sections. The specialist will also engage in quality improvement initiatives and project management to optimize laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, develop, and support the Core Lab integration with the Laboratory Information System and interfaced clinical systems.
  • Coordinate and engage end users in test plans and document changes/updates to the test plan.
  • Act as a liaison between the end-user community, the laboratory, and the Epic build teams.
  • Assist in the development, monitoring, maintenance, and correction of Core Lab and Microbiology applications in collaboration with the EPIC Beaker Team.
  • Participate in the design and testing of LIS and system upgrades based on workflow analysis.
  • Develop policies and procedures for the use of Core Lab functions of the Laboratory Information System.
  • Complete LIS validation testing for new tests or instruments prior to implementation.
  • Develop downtime procedures for safe backup systems during system failures.
  • Resolve issues to ensure system development and performance, supporting patient data and care.
  • Coordinate creation and validation of Epic report requests and requests for test modifications or software changes.
  • Assist with testing of instrument and third-party interfaces in collaboration with lab leadership.
  • Perform appropriate testing of changes prior to moving to the live environment and re-testing for accuracy.
  • Manage multiple projects with minimal supervision and effective time management.
  • Provide support during implementation, upgrades, and downtimes as assigned, including on-call support as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Qualified as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulations.
  • Experience with LIS systems is required.
  • Epic Beaker experience is preferred.
  • Licensure by NYS SED as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required, or licensure-eligible with a limited permit.
