About the position

The Laboratory Information Systems Analyst serves as a crucial link between the Information Technology department and laboratory staff, ensuring that the clinical content integrated into information systems meets regulatory requirements and professional standards. This role is essential in supporting the laboratory's implementation and ongoing use of systems applications, which are vital for providing high-quality, coordinated healthcare services. The analyst is responsible for performing data collection and workflow reviews of department operations, planning and directing laboratory clinical content development efforts, and ensuring that applications function correctly and efficiently according to industry standards. In this position, the analyst will facilitate the review, revision, and approval of clinical content, including order sets, clinical documentation templates, tools, and data dictionaries. They will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking to accomplish objectives, while also planning and executing business process redesigns to maximize the integration of clinical practice with system functionality and operational workflows. The analyst will enable necessary change management for clinical process optimization and adoption, promoting standardization within the organization to comply with healthcare industry requirements. Additionally, the analyst will coordinate unit, functional, and integrated testing for assigned applications, identify discrepancies between departmental needs and application capabilities, and participate in developing alternative solutions. They will also coordinate super user training for clinical applications, ensuring that training meets end-user needs and that users can proficiently utilize clinical systems. This role requires a proactive approach to ensure that new processes adhere to regulatory requirements and facilitate effective data capture for smooth processing.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison between Information Technology and Laboratory staff.
  • Facilitate the review, revision, and approval of clinical content for information systems.
  • Ensure information systems are implemented in accordance with regulatory requirements and professional standards.
  • Support the laboratory in the implementation and ongoing use of systems applications.
  • Perform data collection and workflow review of department operations.
  • Plan, direct, and facilitate laboratory clinical content development efforts, including order sets and documentation templates.
  • Ensure applications function correctly and efficiently according to industry standards.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to accomplish objectives.
  • Plan and execute business process redesign to maximize integration of clinical practice and system functionality.
  • Facilitate changes necessary for workflow automation within patient care areas.
  • Promote standardization to comply with healthcare industry requirements and standards.
  • Coordinate unit, functional, and integrated testing for assigned applications.
  • Identify discrepancies between departmental needs and application capabilities, and develop alternative solutions.
  • Coordinate super user training for assigned clinical applications using train-the-trainer methodology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Three (3) years' experience in clinical system implementations in a laboratory setting.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and ARRA Meaningful Use requirements.
  • Computer proficiency and literacy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain an appropriate work pace.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate of Science/Arts in a lab-related field.
