About the position

The Laboratory Manager will oversee the operations of a new construction materials laboratory, ensuring that testing services for materials such as soils, aggregates, concrete, masonry, and asphalt are conducted safely and in accordance with company quality protocols. This role involves managing laboratory personnel, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards while also contributing to business development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage activities of the construction or geotechnical materials laboratory.
  • Ensure laboratory testing services are conducted safely and in a timely manner.
  • Oversee maintenance and cleanliness of the laboratory and testing equipment.
  • Develop operating policies and procedures unique to the laboratory.
  • Assist in preparing proposals and quotations for laboratory testing services.
  • Supervise and train laboratory personnel to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Monitor laboratory activities to ensure compliance with client and project requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to the company Quality program and Construction Materials Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Manage the efficient utilization of laboratory facilities and equipment.
  • Oversee calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of the laboratory area.
  • Assist in business development activities to support staffing levels.
  • Supervise administrative systems of the laboratory for proper reporting and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering technology or related field and 5 years' experience in laboratory tests on construction and geotechnical materials, or 9 years' related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Certification by qualified authorities (ACI, NICET, DOT) in areas such as concrete, aggregates, soil and rock, or road and paving materials.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
