About the position

Murfreesboro Medical Clinic, Laboratory Department, seeks a Medical Technologist to provide quality service to medical providers in a customer-service oriented environment. The position involves performing various technical duties for routine patient visits. As clinical personnel in a team environment, the position requires effective communication skills for a cooperative office. The employee will be required at times to perform under stressful conditions successfully meeting the demands of a large patient body, as well as physicians, in cooperation with receptionists. As an employee, and representative of the Murfreesboro Medical Clinic, the position requires professionalism in every interpersonal encounter ensuring the values of the organization a commitment to quality customer service. There are no supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of blood, spinal fluids, and gastric juices
  • Correct understanding of the EMR/QUEST/ LIS system
  • Properly prepares specimens for shipment to reference laboratories
  • Understands and abides by all clinic and department safety procedures and infection control guidelines; knows location and use of OSHA and MSDS material
  • Analyzes blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures
  • Ensures operation of analyzers, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, flame photometers, and other laboratory equipment
  • Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job duties
  • Provides medical technology information by answering questions and requests
  • Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations
  • Compliant with HIPPA policies and procedures, maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Reports to Laboratory Supervisor

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Sciences
  • Medical Technologist (ASCP) or medical laboratory license
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Medical Technologist
  • Ability to use complex medical equipment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time, ability to be flexible
  • Ability to utilize computer systems for the purpose of completing assigned tasks
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Skills in communicating effectively with co-workers, providers, and patients
  • Skill in effectively role modeling appropriate behavior
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with patients, providers, and co-workers
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize assignments and meet deadlines as required
