About the position

The Laboratory Operations & Certification Specialist I at Spotlight Safety plays a crucial role in supporting client laboratory operations and ensuring compliance with safety standards through the certification of engineering controls such as fume hoods and biosafety cabinets. This position combines technical expertise with operational support, requiring a balance of hands-on certification work and routine laboratory management tasks. The role is available in both full-time and part-time capacities, with a focus on maintaining safety and efficiency in laboratory environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform certification of fume hoods, biosafety cabinets, and other engineering controls according to NSF and manufacturer's specifications.
  • Adjust engineering control settings and perform minor equipment repairs, such as HEPA filter changeouts and sash repairs.
  • Conduct BSC and Tissue Culture room decontaminations.
  • Provide onsite laboratory operations support at client locations.
  • Conduct routine testing and checks of common safety equipment, including eyewashes, safety showers, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and AEDs.
  • Receive incoming chemicals and lab supplies as part of an active inventory gatekeeping system.
  • Manage and update the client's hazardous chemical inventory and Safety Data Sheet files.
  • Perform hazardous chemical inventory reconciliations.
  • Monitor and restock lab and first aid kit supplies.
  • Communicate with client personnel to report safety hazards and alarms.
  • Conduct hazardous chemical waste checks and move full waste to the Main Accumulation Area.
  • Seal full biological waste containers and move to the biological waste storage area.
  • Organize client-specific documentation.
  • Engage in special projects developed in conjunction with Safety Consultants.

Requirements

  • NSF accredited field certification preferred.
  • Experience with fume hood and biosafety cabinet certification and repair required.
  • Experience with ASHRAE testing preferred.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a science field preferred.
  • Experience in a laboratory, R&D, or manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Experience handling hazardous chemicals preferred.
  • Previous work experience in a customer service or hospitality role preferred.
