The Department of Clinical Laboratories at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Laboratory Operations Coordinator / Associate Technical Director. This position is crucial for managing the day-to-day activities within the laboratory, ensuring the operation of essential equipment, and maintaining adequate supplies for testing procedures. The successful candidate will also be responsible for reviewing the laboratory budget and providing administrative support to the lab quality system manager to maintain compliance with all regulatory agency standards, including those set by New York State, CLIA, CAP, TJC, and CMS. In this role, the Laboratory Operations Coordinator will develop laboratory guidelines, maintain procedures manuals, and evaluate new materials and equipment. The candidate will manage and control departmental expenses while ensuring quality services in collaboration with laboratory technical supervisors and support staff. Additionally, the coordinator will be responsible for departmental statistics, coordinating the collection and preparation of necessary data, and preparing reports, charts, and graphs related to performance improvement activities. The position requires the review of goals, analysis of processes necessary to achieve those goals, and the development of techniques and systems required to meet those goals. The coordinator will also manage lab safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and assist in laboratory space and facilities planning, making recommendations for changes and maintaining an inventory of laboratory furniture, equipment, and supplies. Acting as a liaison between the lab, other services, and affiliates is essential to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations. The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to write and edit policies and procedures, manage personnel, provide training, mentorship, and performance feedback, and develop and present programs for continuing education. The role may also involve performing other duties as assigned or as business needs warrant.
