About the position

The Laboratory Operations Manager position in Gaithersburg, MD, is a critical role within our organization, responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the clinical laboratory. This position requires a strong leader with a comprehensive understanding of laboratory processes and regulations. The manager will ensure that all laboratory activities comply with state and federal regulations, including CLIA, COLA, CAP, and NCQA standards. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain high standards of quality and efficiency in laboratory testing, while also fostering a positive work environment for staff. In this role, the Laboratory Operations Manager will lead a team of laboratory professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure optimal performance. The manager will be responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures that enhance laboratory operations, as well as managing budgets and financial resources effectively. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure situations. Additionally, the manager will be involved in program development and quality improvement initiatives, ensuring that the laboratory meets the needs of its clients and stakeholders. The working hours for this position are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with rotating weekend and holiday coverage as needed. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of laboratory operations, and the manager will play a key role in shaping the future of our laboratory services.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the clinical laboratory to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Lead and manage laboratory staff, providing guidance and support for optimal performance.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance laboratory operations.
  • Manage budgets and financial resources effectively, ensuring cost efficiency.
  • Participate in program development and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure high standards of quality and efficiency in laboratory testing.
  • Foster a positive work environment and promote teamwork among staff.

Requirements

  • Must have a MT or MLS with ASCP or AMT certification.
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in high complexity testing.
  • Minimum three (3) years of leadership experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological science from an accredited institution.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 3 years of leadership experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • MT or MLS certification clearly stated on the resume.
  • Generalist experience in laboratory operations.
