About the position

The University at Buffalo's Microbiome Center, located within the School of Dental Medicine, is seeking a full-time Laboratory Project Coordinator. This role is pivotal in coordinating the development of microbiome projects, which includes tracking samples and data across various collaborating laboratories and institutions. The successful candidate will assist with nucleic acid extractions, specifically DNA and RNA, utilizing both standard and customized protocols. Additionally, the coordinator will play a key role in managing project budgets and invoices, ensuring that financial aspects are handled efficiently. In this position, the Laboratory Project Coordinator will also be responsible for organizing and planning activities within the Microbiome Center, which includes scheduling seminars and meetings. A significant part of the role involves overseeing the maintenance of laboratory equipment, ensuring that all tools and machines are functioning optimally. The coordinator will assist the Principal Investigator with various laboratory projects, applying techniques from molecular biology and microbiology as needed. The typical work hours for this position are Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate development of microbiome projects including tracking of samples and data between collaborating laboratories and institutions
  • Assist with nucleic acid extractions (DNA and RNA) applying various standard and customized protocols
  • Assist with project budgets and invoices
  • Assist with coordination and planning of Microbiome Center activities including scheduling of seminars and meetings
  • Oversee laboratory equipment maintenance
  • Assist the Principal Investigator as required in various projects of the laboratory applying molecular biology and/or microbiology techniques

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree
  • Previous laboratory experience working independently with molecular biology techniques
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
