In this role, the Laboratory Research Assistant will conduct a variety of tests across different assays utilizing laboratory machinery and computer programs. Responsibilities include setting up lab equipment, collecting data, and preparing reports in accordance with established protocols. The assistant will also participate in departmental meetings, manage laboratory supplies by ordering and inventorying them, and maintain cleanliness in the laboratory work areas. Troubleshooting equipment breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, and keeping accurate logs and records of equipment will also be key duties. Candidates must possess a strong educational background and relevant experience in a laboratory setting. The position requires effective communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to manage time and priorities efficiently. The assistant must demonstrate a commitment to quality and possess the flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Physical demands include the ability to move about the work environment, operate laboratory equipment, and occasionally lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role may also involve working near moving mechanical parts, necessitating a high degree of initiative and dependability.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct tests across a diverse array of assays using laboratory machinery and computer programs.
  • Set up lab equipment and perform tests.
  • Collect data and prepare reports based upon established protocols.
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings.
  • Order, receive, and inventory laboratory supplies.
  • Clean glassware and maintain laboratory work areas.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and call for repairs as needed.
  • Maintain logs and equipment record books.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting; OR Associate's degree and 4 years of experience in a laboratory setting.
