About the position

The Laboratory Research Technician I position at the University of Pittsburgh's Renal-Electrolyte Division involves performing laboratory experiments and sample analysis while maintaining laboratory equipment. The role supports various research activities under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) and requires a combination of education and experience, along with problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing and analysis on multiple types of specimen samples.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper sterilization and cleanliness.
  • Keep detailed, accurate, and timely data and log books.
  • Organize and document results of laboratory tests.
  • Maintain inventories and assist with ordering supplies and chemicals.
  • General maintenance of the lab, including biological waste collection and cleaning of metabolic cages.
  • Retrieve and return mice to the animal facility.
  • Make up stock solutions and maintain cultured cells.
  • Maintain and genotype mouse colonies.
  • Section, mount, and stain paraffin and frozen tissue samples.
  • Assist lab faculty with various experiments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • No prior experience required, but a combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
