About the position

The Laboratory Support Technician II (LST II) plays a crucial role in patient care by performing blood specimen collection and processing laboratory tests. This position is dedicated to ensuring high-quality specimen collection and processing while adhering to hospital and laboratory policies. The LST II also trains new staff and acts as a resource for daily operations, contributing to a patient-focused and innovative healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood specimen collection on adult and pediatric patients including venous, capillary, and blood culture samples.
• Order laboratory tests in the Laboratory Information System and process specimens for testing.
• Train and competency assess new staff with patience and understanding.
• Communicate clearly with patients, explaining procedures and ensuring confidentiality.
• Collect appropriate and high-quality specimens for all tests ordered from all age groups.
• Review specimens and requisitions to assure quality and proper labeling.
• Enter required information into the LIS and deliver specimens in a timely manner.
• Maintain specimen integrity and prepare specimens for reference labs accurately.
• Achieve and maintain national phlebotomy certification and perform additional tasks to maintain career ladder status.
• Assist in service recovery when needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one (1) year experience as an LST required.
• CPT-A Phlebotomy Certification preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Minimum two (2) years' experience as an LST preferred.
