About the position

The Animal Care Technician position at the New Iberia Research Center involves performing various animal care duties, including handling laboratory specimens and assisting in laboratory tasks. Responsibilities

• Perform animal care duties including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring animal health.
• Prepare laboratory specimens such as blood, urine, and tissue samples for diagnostic evaluation.
• Conduct veni-puncture to obtain blood samples following standard protocols.
• Prepare reagents and perform basic sanitation practices in the laboratory.
• Operate laboratory equipment and perform microscopic examinations of samples.

Requirements

• Two years of experience as a laboratory assistant, laboratory technician, or blood bank phlebotomist.
• Completion of a twelve-month training program in histological techniques can substitute for required experience.
• Satisfactory completion of a one-year program in medical laboratory technology can substitute for required experience.
• An associate degree in medical technology or nursing can substitute for all required experience.
• Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science can substitute for all required experience.
