About the position

The Laboratory Technician - Floater plays a crucial role in the healthcare delivery system, serving as the first clinical point of contact for patients. This position involves managing patient care, ensuring accurate laboratory testing, maintaining records, and adhering to safety and quality control standards. The technician will perform various laboratory tests and procedures, support patient relationships, and collaborate with clinical teams to enhance patient services while following established protocols and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome patients in a respectful manner.
  • Manage patient care by collecting specimens and instructing patients on specimen collection.
  • Complete lab orders in the EMR system for all tests requested and collected.
  • Perform routine tests accurately and under minimal supervision.
  • Deliver panic lab results to the assigned provider with proper logging.
  • Maintain laboratory records and quality control measures for inspections.
  • Participate in department huddles and team communication for patient care objectives.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Keep the work area clean and disinfected, adhering to safety measures.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in continuing education.

Requirements

  • CMA/Phlebotomist certification with a minimum of one year of experience in laboratory testing.
  • Experience in phlebotomy across all age groups and working with the public.
  • Current BLS/CPR Certification required.
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.

Nice-to-haves

  • MLT Certification preferred.
  • Experience in quality control in a laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of PCMH model and SC policies and procedures.
