About the position

The Greenhouse/Sanitation Technician position at BCforward involves supporting the Controlled Environments Team in agricultural research at their Johnston, Iowa facility. The role focuses on plant care, greenhouse sanitation, and contributing to innovative agricultural solutions. Candidates should be motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while adhering to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Diligently tassel bag and shoot bag in corn pollination rooms
• Transfer plants on carts to correct room locations
• Execute on plant care tasks for various crops according to a defined schedule
• Perform routine greenhouse sanitation tasks like discarding regulated material
• Work one weekend every three months, with paid days off

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED required; Bachelor's degree in agriculture, horticulture, plant physiology, molecular biology, entomology, or plant pathology preferred, or two or more years of relevant experience
• Good communication skills and a high degree of self-motivation
• Positive attitude and close attention to detail
• Ability to work well independently and with minimal supervision
• Ability to drive company vehicles, such as a tug
• Good basic computer skills, including experience with MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Willingness to gain competency with internally developed research software
• Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 30 pounds, and perform repetitive work in a warm, humid greenhouse with pollen present year-round
