About the position

The Laboratory Technician position at the City of Stockton involves performing a full range of laboratory duties, including cleaning and maintaining laboratory materials and equipment, as well as conducting standard analyses. The role supports the Wastewater, Water, and Stormwater utilities permit compliance activities and operates on a rotating shift schedule that includes weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standard analyses in the laboratory.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory materials and equipment.
  • Support analytical services for Wastewater, Water, and Stormwater utilities.
  • Conduct sampling programs and analyses for treatment plant process control.
  • Monitor Title 22 disinfection requirements for public water supply systems.
  • Perform microbiology analyses related to the Revised Total Coliform Rule.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in chemistry or a closely related field.
  • Two years of technical experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Must possess a valid California Class C driver's license.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid California Boater Card within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Must obtain and maintain valid First Aid and CPR certifications within the first 90 days of employment.

Benefits

  • Employees employed as of July 1, 2025, will receive a $2,000 lump sum non-pensionable bonus.
  • Effective July 1, 2025, employees will receive a three percent (3%) COLA to base pay.
