About the position

The employee serves as a labor leader for the Jamaica Bay Maintenance Operations of the Gateway National Recreation Area. This role involves supervising and leading maintenance operations, ensuring safety and compliance with procedures, and coordinating work activities among team members. The position is seasonal, typically from May to November, with the anticipated entry on duty in May 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain current knowledge and answer questions from other workers on procedures, policies, and directives.
  • Check work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with instructions and deadlines.
  • Demonstrate proper work methods and collaborate with others to establish a work pace.
  • Ensure availability of necessary plans, materials, supplies, equipment, and tools.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to supervise or lead teams effectively.
  • Knowledge of work practices, including maintaining cleanliness and organization.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications.
  • Skill in using and maintaining tools and equipment.
  • Dexterity and adherence to safety protocols.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a supervisory role in maintenance operations.
  • Familiarity with National Park Service standards and procedures.
