About the position
This position is assigned to the All American Inn on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JBMDL). The Laborer role involves a variety of manual tasks that support the operations of the lodging facility. The incumbent will be responsible for loading, unloading, moving, and stacking materials such as heavy boxes and bulky items using hand tools, hand trucks, or dollies. The role requires the ability to operate simple power equipment, including hand lawnmowers and other basic tools, to perform tasks such as mowing lawns, clearing small trees and bushes, and removing snow. The position is flexible, allowing for a work schedule that can range from 0 to 40 hours per week, making it suitable for individuals seeking intermittent employment. In addition to the physical demands of the job, the Laborer will be expected to follow specific written and oral instructions, which may involve several distinct tasks. The role may also include moving and arranging furniture, collecting and emptying garbage, and performing general cleaning duties. The successful candidate must be physically capable of lifting and carrying medium to heavy objects, up to 40 pounds, and must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. This position does not allow for education substitution, and applicants must demonstrate relevant experience or skills in operating basic hand tools and power equipment. Responsibilities
- Load, unload, move, and stack materials such as heavy boxes and bulky items by hand, hand-trucks, or dollies.
- Open crates and boxes using crowbars and cut bands using shears.
- Place items where directed.
- Operate hand tools and simple power equipment such as hand lawnmowers, walking-type power mowers, hand-saws, hatchets, and clippers.
- Perform tasks such as mowing lawns, clearing small trees and bushes, and removing snow.
- Use a shovel or dig ditches and trenches where soil is not compacted.
- Fill holes, level bumps and low places, or remove coal, ash, snow, dirt, etc.
- Perform a variety of manual tasks such as moving, arranging, collecting, and cleaning equipment and materials.
- Move and arrange furniture as directed.
- Collect and empty garbage cans, burn garbage and trash, and wash and wax cars and trucks by hand or using a powered buffer.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Must be physically able to frequently lift and carry medium to heavy objects up to 40 pounds.
- Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
- Experience operating simple power equipment such as powered push lawnmowers, leaf blowers, and weed trimmers.
- Knowledge of basic hand tools such as hand-saws, hatchets, and clippers.
- Ability to read and follow simple signs and specific written and/or oral instructions.
