About the position
The City of Vacaville is seeking part-time Laborers to join the Public Works and Utilities Departments. This role involves performing various maintenance tasks within the Maintenance Division, which encompasses Parks, Streets, Facilities, Garage maintenance, and Central Warehouse operations. Laborers assigned to the Utilities Department will focus on tasks within the Field Utilities section. Candidates must be adaptable, able to work both independently and collaboratively, and willing to handle multiple tasks throughout the day. Key responsibilities include manual labor such as loading and unloading materials and equipment, digging and covering holes and trenches, maintaining and repairing sewer and water lines, streets, and storm drains. Laborers will also operate equipment like weed-eaters and lawnmowers, assist skilled workers in general maintenance operations, clean and service equipment, and perform cleaning duties for buildings and parks. Additionally, they will be responsible for warehouse duties, including making daily deliveries to City facilities. This part-time position offers a salary range of $20.57 to $25.00 per hour, with a maximum of 129 hours of work per month. It is important to note that part-time positions are at-will, do not qualify for health or retirement benefits, and do not accrue leave time, except for state-mandated sick leave (40 hours per year). Opportunities for promotion to full-time positions will be available through separate recruitment processes.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance work in the Maintenance Division including Parks, Streets, Facilities, Garage maintenance, and Central Warehouse.

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Experience in landscape or construction maintenance is highly desirable.
- Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire to drive a vehicle for City business and operate power tools.
Benefits
