About the position

The Laborer (Seasonal) position at the Department of the Treasury involves performing very heavy manual labor tasks, including lifting and moving heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies within a Correspondence Production Services site. This role is essential for maintaining operational efficiency and ensuring the proper handling of materials in a warehouse environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform very heavy manual labor including lifting and moving heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies.
• Use weight-handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks to move materials to and from a warehouse or staging area.
• Deliver, position, and stack boxes, trays, and pallets of materials safely and effectively.
• Operate packaging equipment such as banding and shrink wrap machines for shipment preparation.
• Load stock in staging areas and insert equipment according to established procedures.
• Assemble mail trays onto pallets for shipment according to established procedures.
• Clean office and light industrial spaces, equipment, machinery, and floors as directed.
• Take inventories of specific forms and materials by counting boxes or pallets as requested.
• Verify physical inventory accuracy against inventory records and identify discrepancies.
• Follow appropriate procedures when moving stock and materials to maintain accountability.
• Pull items using appropriate equipment and deliver them to specified locations.
• Perform minor maintenance and repairs on office furniture and equipment using common hand and power tools.
• Operate office equipment such as table-top folders and inserters, mail meters, or photocopiers.
• Dispose of materials and used items through shredding, recycling, or waste disposal according to established procedures.
• Unpack cartons by hand or using simple hand tools.
• Load and unload mail/supplies on trucks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
• Ability to frequently lift and carry light and medium weight objects such as cartons weighing up to approximately 30 pounds.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods and lift up to 50 pounds, with lifting often from floor level to eye level.
• Experience in performing very heavy manual labor including lifting and moving heavy equipment and supplies through confined spaces.
• Knowledge and skill in the operation and control of heavy power equipment and safe working practices with heavy tools.
