About the position

The Laborer position at the Department of the Treasury involves performing heavy manual labor tasks, including the operation of weight-handling equipment and maintaining cleanliness in office and light industrial spaces. This role is essential for the efficient movement and handling of materials within the IRS's Taxpayer Services Division, ensuring that supplies and equipment are delivered and stored properly.

Responsibilities

• Use weight-handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks to move forms, supplies, and equipment to and from a warehouse or staging area.
• Deliver and stack boxes, trays, and pallets of materials safely and effectively in storage and work areas.
• Operate packaging equipment including banding and shrink wrap machines for shipment preparation.
• Load stock in staging areas and insert equipment according to established procedures.
• Assemble mail trays onto pallets for shipment according to established procedures.
• Clean office and light industrial spaces, equipment, machinery, and floors as directed.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Ability to perform very heavy manual labor, including lifting and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds.
• Knowledge and skill in the operation and control of heavy power equipment and safe work practices with heavy tools.
• Experience in operating weight-handling devices such as electric hand trucks, pallet jacks, and dollies.
