About the position

The Laborer position at the Department of the Interior involves performing various physical tasks to maintain the grounds and facilities of Acadia National Park and Sagamore Hill National Historic Site. This seasonal role requires the operation of heavy power equipment and hand tools, as well as performing janitorial duties when necessary. The position is open to U.S. citizens and offers a competitive hourly wage based on experience and location.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy power equipment such as lawn mowers and portable snow blowers.
  • Use hand tools to maintain buildings, grounds, roads, and trails.
  • Load and unload supplies and materials from trucks and trailers.
  • Move furniture, set signs, and paint picnic tables and signs.
  • Rake and water lawns, trim trees and shrubbery, and pick up litter.
  • Dig ditches and trenches, mix and pour concrete, and fill holes in damaged roads.
  • Perform janitorial duties in the absence of janitorial staff.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old or 16 years old with specific educational qualifications.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks without more than normal supervision.
  • Knowledge of safety work practices and ability to maintain tools and equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with heavy equipment operation.
  • Previous work in landscaping or maintenance roles.
