About the position

The Laborer position within the National Park Service is a temporary, full-time role focused on maintaining park facilities and grounds. The job involves operating heavy equipment, performing janitorial duties, and engaging in various physical tasks to ensure the upkeep of park areas. This position is open to U.S. citizens and offers opportunities across multiple parks, with a flexible work schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Operates heavy power equipment such as lawn mowers and portable snow blowers.
  • Loads and unloads supplies and materials from trucks and trailers.
  • Moves furniture, removes and sets signs, and paints picnic tables and signs.
  • Digs ditches and trenches, breaks up pavement, and mixes and pours concrete.
  • Cuts heavy trees with an axe or chainsaw and stacks heavy logs and lumber.
  • Performs janitorial duties for buildings in the absence of janitor.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old or 16 years old with specific educational qualifications.
  • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
  • Dexterity and safety in handling tools and equipment.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with heavy power equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of landscaping and maintenance practices.
