About the position

The Associate Scientist position at Thermo Fisher Scientific involves performing complex sample preparation and analysis procedures to quantitatively measure biopharmaceutical compounds in various biological matrices. The role requires a thorough understanding of laboratory procedures and the ability to operate advanced instrumentation such as HPLC, CE, and LC/MS. The position supports product quality analysis for Bioprocess Development under the supervision of a senior scientist, ensuring adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of complex sample preparation and analysis procedures.
  • Operate liquid handling systems (Protein Maker, Hamilton) for high-throughput sample preparation and purification.
  • Conduct protein analytical assays including Affinity Chromatography, SEC, CEX, CE-SDS, icIEF, and LC/MS.
  • Document data acquisition clearly and concisely in electronic lab notebooks.
  • Coordinate sample submission and data management for incoming samples from BioProcess Development colleagues.
  • Manage basic laboratory operations such as shipping, ordering consumables, and instrument maintenance.
  • Perform enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) to monitor impurities and assess antigen binding.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • 0-2 years of previous experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of techniques such as Hamilton Robotics and Biopharmaceutical Testing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to interpret data and perform trend analysis.
  • Strong technical writing skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Time management and project management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to independently optimize analytical methods.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs).
