About the position

The Lactation Specialist - Staff Nurse in Postpartum is a professional caregiver responsible for planning, providing, and directing patient care and education in accordance with nursing standards and physician orders. This role involves acting as a liaison between physicians, patients, and families, while collaborating with healthcare team members. The specialist manages a quality lactation program, guides and mentors OB staff in educational matters, and serves as a consultant for lactation services across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, provide, and direct patient care and education utilizing the nursing process.
  • Act as a liaison between physicians, patients, and families.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare team members.
  • Assist in the orientation process of new personnel.
  • Participate in health center and department committees.
  • Manage, coordinate, and track a quality lactation program.
  • Guide and mentor OB staff in educational matters.
  • Serve as a consultant for lactation services to all departments.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current licensure by the Ohio State Board of Nursing.
  • Previous maternity nursing experience required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years experience educating patients in Lactation Services.
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification required.
  • CPR certification required.
  • ACLS preferred.
  • PALS certification required in Emergency Services.

Nice-to-haves

  • ACLS certification for Critical Care and Emergency Services.
