About the position

The Lake Level Monitoring Hydrologist position at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources involves managing the lake level monitoring program, ensuring the collection and analysis of hydrologic data for effective water resource management. This role requires technical expertise in hydrology and the ability to coordinate with various stakeholders, including volunteers and conservation districts, to maintain data quality and support environmental initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead and assist with the operation and maintenance of the lake level and wetland level data collection program.
• Manage lake level volunteers and training for monitoring partners and vendors.
• Process water level data to ensure quality for surface water resource management.
• Install and maintain water monitoring equipment in rugged terrain.
• Provide professional hydrologic monitoring data analysis and reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field such as Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or Water Resources Management.
• Two years of professional experience in surface water or groundwater hydrology or related fields.
• Technical knowledge of hydrology, hydrogeology, and water resource management principles.
• Ability to perform vertical elevation surveys and collect hydrographic data following USGS protocols.
• Unrestricted Class D Driver's license with a clear driving record.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience using GPS technology for collecting vertical elevations.
• Familiarity with hydrologic databases and software for data analysis and reporting.
• Knowledge of WMS data collection policies and procedures.
• Experience in computer modeling and GIS.
