About the position

The Land Acquisition VP at Forestar Group is responsible for leading the land acquisition efforts to support the division's annual business plan. This role involves managing the entire process of land analysis, negotiations, and securing necessary approvals to meet the division's objectives. The VP will work closely with the Division President to establish goals and ensure the successful acquisition of properties, while also overseeing a team and maintaining strategic relationships within the industry.

Responsibilities

• Establish land acquisition goals in collaboration with the Division President.
• Manage operations to find, contract, obtain agency approvals, and close on land acquisitions.
• Direct the process of land analysis, negotiations, and purchase agreements.
• Perform market analyses to determine the financial viability of potential projects.
• Oversee the due diligence process on land acquisition opportunities, ensuring compliance with timelines.
• Negotiate property acquisitions with landowners, banks, attorneys, or brokers.
• Attend city staff meetings and public hearings to represent the company and obtain necessary zoning.
• Evaluate and verify work done by consultants related to plot plans and subdivision layouts.
• Prepare the Investment Committee package including budgets and schedules for acquisitions and developments.
• Communicate critical dates and information to other department heads and evaluate workload priorities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or related field.
• 7-10 years of land acquisition experience.
• Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
• Experience in contract negotiation.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and email.

• Familiarity with residential land due diligence and entitlements.
