About the position

As a Land Acquisition Manager at David Weekley Homes, you will play a crucial role in the growth and development of our residential projects. This position requires a collaborative approach, working closely with the Land team, Regional and Division Presidents to evaluate the feasibility of potential land purchases. You will be responsible for managing the entire process of entitlement and site selection, conducting thorough due diligence reviews, underwriting, and securing approvals for proposed new land acquisitions. Your ability to network with developers, brokers, landowners, and other builders will be essential in identifying new land opportunities for David Weekley Homes (DWH). In this role, you will maintain a high level of visibility within the home building industry, actively participating in community, civic, and business organizations relevant to our field. You will oversee the development of active projects from acquisition to lot delivery, ensuring that all projects align with DWH's business plan. Each new opportunity will require your evaluation to determine its fit within our strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in residential land acquisitions, analysis, development, or brokerage, particularly within the San Antonio area. You will need to demonstrate considerable initiative, independence, and intuition, along with proficiency in interpreting and analyzing financial reports. Your organizational skills, prioritization, and communication abilities will be critical in driving results with a sense of urgency while maintaining a focus on the details that lead to successful community development. Additionally, you will need to influence a diverse range of external stakeholders, ensuring that your priorities are recognized and prioritized. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with a professional demeanor and a win-win attitude, are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the Land team and Regional and Division Presidents to assess the feasibility of potential land purchases.
  • Manage entitlement and site selection, due diligence review, underwriting, and approvals for proposed new land acquisitions.
  • Network with developers, brokers, landowners, and other builders to identify new land opportunities for DWH.
  • Maintain visibility in the home building business by participating in community, civic, and business organizations relevant to the industry.
  • Oversee the development of active projects from acquisition to lot delivery for 100% owned projects.
  • Evaluate newly presented opportunities to determine their fit with DWH's business plan.

Requirements

  • 5 years of work experience in residential land acquisitions, analysis, development, or brokerage experience within the San Antonio area.
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Finance, Business, Economics, Real Estate, Land Development, Law, or related fields.
  • MBA or JD strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and analyzing financial reports and confident with numbers and MS Excel.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to see the big picture while maintaining focus on day-to-day details.
