About the position

The Land Survey Crew Chief position at Actalent involves leading survey operations in Raleigh, NC, utilizing advanced robotic and GPS equipment. The role requires expertise in boundary, topographic, and construction surveys, with a focus on maintaining accurate records and ensuring safety protocols are followed. The ideal candidate will work independently and communicate effectively with project teams while contributing to the growth of the company in North Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and work as a one-person crew utilizing state-of-the-art robotic and GPS equipment.
  • Conduct construction layout, cut sheets, and survey calculations.
  • Execute boundary and title surveys, topographic surveys, and data collection of survey information.
  • Maintain accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify work performance.
  • Communicate daily with Project Surveyors and CAD technicians regarding project schedule and work progress.
  • Ensure the surveying team follows safety protocols and practices, including safe driving habits and proper use of equipment and Personal Protection Equipment.
  • Operate and maintain surveying equipment, including total stations, digital levels, GPS receivers, and data collectors.
  • Research and review land records, legal documents, and historical survey data to determine property boundaries.
  • Establish boundary markers and reference points using high accuracy surveying techniques.
  • Conduct traverses and level loops using high accuracy techniques and equipment to establish primary and secondary control.
  • Maintain company truck and equipment.

Requirements

  • Experience with boundary, topographic, and construction surveys.
  • Familiarity with automated survey instrumentation.
  • Understanding of construction plans and stakeout techniques.
  • Ability to perform and work as a one-person crew utilizing robotic and GPS equipment.
  • Working knowledge of construction layout, cut sheets, and survey calculations.
  • Proficiency in boundary and title surveys, topographic surveys, and data collection.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Familiarity with boundary survey software and construction plans.
  • Experience with robotic survey instruments and data collectors.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and other relevant software is advantageous.
