About the position

The Land Use Research & Data Analyst position is a term-limited role within the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, focusing on data development, analysis, and technical assistance related to land use planning and housing needs. The analyst will support local and regional governments in complying with state land use requirements and contribute to programs aimed at enhancing affordable housing and strategic growth in Colorado communities. This position is essential for driving data-driven decision-making and ensuring effective implementation of housing policies.

Responsibilities

  • Collect data, provide research, and contribute to analysis for planning laws, including housing needs assessments.
  • Draft progress reports on local strategy adoption and local/regional submittals.
  • Query data and provide analysis to department leadership, legislators, or other stakeholders.
  • Assist local governments with collecting, analyzing, and understanding housing and planning data.
  • Review and analyze data to provide recommendations on grant applications.

Requirements

  • Six years of experience working with local or regional governments researching, analyzing, and reporting data.
  • A combination of related education in public administration, data science, statistics, or a closely related field and experience equal to six years.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a State of Colorado permanent employee in urban/regional planning.
  • Significant coursework or experience in Statistics or Data Science.
  • Understanding of programming languages such as Hadoop, JavaScript, Python, R, SQL, or XML.
  • Experience using data for housing needs analyses, market analyses, or data visualization.
  • Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
