About the position
The Operator - Heavy Equipment is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery at various waste management facilities, including recycling centers, landfills, and transfer stations. This role involves transferring, spreading, covering, loading, and compacting waste or soil while adhering to safety standards and company policies. The operator plays a crucial role in ensuring equipment readiness and monitoring waste for compliance with regulations.
Responsibilities
- Perform pre- and post-operation inspection of the equipment to ensure cleanliness and operational readiness.
- Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders.
- Continuously monitor waste for unacceptable materials and report findings.
- Maintain equipment condition by performing minor services and cleaning as needed.
- Complete Equipment Condition Reports and document necessary repairs to supervisors.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Ensure the work area is clean and organized at the end of each shift.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Two years of prior related experience in heavy equipment operation.
- One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
- Good customer service skills to meet and exceed customer expectations.
- Good time management skills to complete responsibilities efficiently and safely.
- Ability to adhere to company policies and promote safety standards.
