The Operator - Heavy Equipment is responsible for the safe operation of heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station. This role is crucial for the efficient transfer, spreading, covering, loading, and compacting of waste or soil. The Operator must ensure that all operations are conducted in a safe manner, adhering to company policies and safety standards. The position requires performing pre- and post-operation inspections of the equipment to ensure it is in optimal working condition. This includes checking that windows, lights, mirrors, and rearview cameras are clean and functional. The Operator will be tasked with operating various types of heavy equipment, such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders, while continuously monitoring the waste for any unacceptable materials. Additionally, the Operator must keep a close eye on the condition of the equipment to minimize downtime, performing minor services as needed and reporting any major mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop. Documentation is also a key part of the role, as the Operator will need to complete Equipment Condition Reports and other necessary reports, ensuring that any required repairs are communicated to the supervisor. Following all safety policies and procedures is paramount, and the Operator is expected to maintain a clean and organized work environment at the end of each shift. Other job-related duties may be assigned as necessary.
