About the position

The Landfill Operator I is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of landfill equipment and the management of waste materials at the City of Salina's landfill site. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining environmental standards and ensuring compliance with regulations while providing essential services to the community.

Responsibilities

• Operate landfill equipment such as bulldozers, compactors, and excavators.
• Monitor and manage waste disposal operations to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on landfill equipment.
• Assist in the daily operations of the landfill, including waste compaction and cover application.
• Maintain accurate records of waste received and disposed of at the landfill.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Experience operating heavy machinery preferred.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and practices related to landfill operations.

Nice-to-haves

• Certification in heavy equipment operation.
