About the position

Whitham Planning Design Landscape Architecture, PLLC is seeking a dedicated Landscape Architectural Designer to join our dynamic team. This full-time position is integral to our landscape architectural design, planning, and project management firm. The successful candidate will work closely with other staff members to foster a collegial and collaborative office environment. The role involves managing and collaborating on a variety of projects, ranging from small to large scale, throughout all stages of the design process. This includes preparing site analyses, developing concepts, and creating detailed plans for planting, paving, grading, drainage, and materials. In addition to design responsibilities, the Landscape Designer will be tasked with preparing and managing project schedules and meeting agendas, visiting project sites at various stages of construction, and administering construction projects in accordance with contract documents. The role also requires the preparation of municipal approval documents, including SEQR, Zoning, and Site Plan Review materials, as well as coordinating between client and consultant teams. The designer will deliver presentations to a diverse audience of project stakeholders and write project narratives to effectively communicate design intentions and project progress. The ideal candidate will possess 1-3 years of professional landscape architectural design experience and hold a Professional Degree in Landscape Architecture. A proven record of effective collaboration on projects, along with expert communication, organization, writing, graphic, and presentation skills, is essential. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is required, as well as fluency in SketchUp or other 3D software for graphic preparation. Basic skills in Microsoft Word and Excel are also necessary for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Closely collaborate with other WPD staff and maintain a collegial, collaborative, and supportive office environment
  • Manage and collaborate on 1-6 large- and small-scale projects during all stages of the design process
  • Prepare site analysis, concept development, layout, planting, paving, grading and drainage, and materials plans and details
  • Prepare and manage project schedules and meeting agendas
  • Visit project sites before, during, and after construction
  • Administer construction projects in accordance with the contract documents
  • Prepare municipal approval documents including SEQR, Zoning, and Site Plan Review materials
  • Coordinate between client and consultant teams
  • Deliver presentations to a broad audience of project stakeholders
  • Write project narratives

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of professional landscape architectural design experience
  • Professional Degree in Landscape Architecture
  • Record of effectively collaborating on projects with other colleagues
  • Expert communication, organization, writing, graphic, and presentation skills
  • Expertise in AutoCAD; Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Fluency in SketchUp and/or other 3D software to prepare graphics
  • Basic Microsoft Word and Excel fluency
