About the position

The Landscape Architecture Design/Construction Planner III is an advanced professional role responsible for overseeing the design and construction of park site capital improvement projects. This position involves site analysis, concept plan development, construction cost estimating, and design plan development, including planting, irrigation, and hardscape. The role also includes assisting with park planning, community outreach, and policy initiatives, ensuring projects align with community desires and operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design and construction of park site capital improvement projects.
  • Prepare conceptual park/preserve site plans and related facility designs based on public input and analysis of existing conditions.
  • Create construction drawings and specifications and obtain permits for small projects.
  • Facilitate the procurement of professional design services for larger projects.
  • Coordinate with various County departments and manage public workshops.
  • Oversee the design, permitting, budgeting, and construction process to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Participate on inter-department and inter-agency teams to align park projects with community desires.
  • Coordinate project meetings and provide quality control inspections.
  • Research and create documents in support of strategic planning goals.
  • Assist with updates to the Sarasota County Parks, Preserves and Recreation Strategic Master Plan.
  • Support the department's annual Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget process.
  • Provide support documentation for community presentations and perform grant research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Park Planning, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Six years of related professional experience with demonstrated leadership in construction project management.
  • Valid Florida driver's license by date of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior professional experience as a Landscape Architect or Construction Project Manager.
  • Certifications such as Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Adobe software.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or Land F/X; familiarity with GIS principles.
