About the position

The Landscape Architecture Design/Construction Planner III position involves advanced professional work overseeing the design and construction of park site capital improvement projects. The role includes designing and coordinating in-house construction projects, developing park site and facility standards, and assisting with park planning and community outreach. The position requires independent action and recommendations consistent with policies and regulations, contributing to the enhancement of community parks and recreation facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design and construction of park site capital improvement projects.
  • Prepare conceptual park/preserve site plans and related facility designs based on public input and analysis of existing conditions.
  • Act as a technical advisor and subject matter expert in landscape architecture.
  • Create construction drawings and specifications and obtain permits for small projects.
  • Facilitate procurement of professional design services for larger projects.
  • Coordinate with various County departments and PRNR staff as needed.
  • Manage public workshops and community outreach efforts.
  • Oversee the design, permitting, budgeting, and construction process to ensure project completion within scope and budget.
  • Participate in inter-department and inter-agency teams to align park projects with community desires.
  • Coordinate project meetings and quality control inspections.
  • Research and develop documents for strategic planning goals and projects.
  • Assist with updates to the Sarasota County Parks, Preserves and Recreation Strategic Master Plan.
  • Review private development plans and assist with planning initiatives.
  • Support the department's annual Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget process.
  • Facilitate collection of proposed park development ideas and develop project budgets.
  • Provide support documentation for community stakeholder presentations.
  • Perform grant research, writing, management, and reporting for park projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Park Planning, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Six years of related professional experience with demonstrated leadership in construction project management.
  • Valid Florida driver's license by date of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior professional experience as a Landscape Architect or Construction Project Manager.
  • Certifications such as Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator, or Adobe InDesign.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or Land F/X; familiarity with GIS principles.
