About the position

The Landscaping Student Assistant position at the University of Lynchburg is designed for students to assist the Physical Plant staff in carrying out their duties. This role provides an opportunity to develop skills in teamwork, interpersonal relations, and dependability while working in various environments including environmental services, warehouse, grounds maintenance, and the Physical Plant office. The position is part-time, averaging up to 10 hours per week during the academic session.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Physical Plant staff in environmental services tasks such as painting, emptying trash, cleaning stairwells, recycling, vacuuming, and washing windows.
• Help with equipment and supply delivery.
• Clean and service vehicles, including taking them to the shop and refueling.
• Issue parts and manage stock in the warehouse.
• Perform grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, pulling weeds, and raking.
• Assist in maintenance tasks including picking up parts, changing smoke detector batteries, and replacing lights and filters.
• Answer phones, make copies, and manage work orders in the Physical Plant office.

Requirements

• No prior experience required.
• Valid Driver's License preferred.
• Ability to meet physical demands including standing and walking for extended periods and lifting up to 50lbs unassisted.
