About the position
The position involves providing interpreting services in a culturally sensitive manner to facilitate communication between speakers of different languages at Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). The role includes translating medical instructions, medication schedules, and hospital-related correspondence, while collaborating with healthcare team members to ensure effective patient care. The interpreter will also assist in training new staff interpreters.
Responsibilities
- Provide interpreting services to facilitate communication between patients and healthcare providers.
- Translate medical instructions and medication schedules for patients and families.
- Assist in the translation of hospital-related administrative correspondence.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members in the delivery of care.
- Comply with hospital policies regarding patient confidentiality and informed consent.
- Assist in the training and orientation of new staff interpreters.
Requirements
- Bilingual in Spanish is required.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience interpreting and translating in a healthcare setting.
- Experience working with diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Competency in written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish.
- Ability to translate and interpret medical terminology.
- Experience interpreting and translating with patients at various developmental and educational levels.
- Completion of a minimum of 40-hour Healthcare Interpreter training.
- Healthcare Interpreter National Certification or equivalent credentialing (where applicable).
- Translator Certification (where applicable by language) through ATA.
- 85%-90% Score for Language Proficiency from a vendor selected by CHLA.
