About the position

The Language Access Program Manager at High Desert ESD is responsible for coordinating language interpretation and translation services within the district. This role involves proofreading translations, screening potential interpreters and translators, and ensuring academic proficiency in both English and a second language. The manager will schedule and assign interpreters and translations for requests made by the district or program, act as a resource for language interpreters and translators, and implement ongoing professional development training. The position requires collaboration with regional, ESD, and district personnel to enhance the effectiveness of language services.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties of Language Interpreter/Translator I and II as appropriate
  • Coordinate meetings and be prompt for any scheduled meetings
  • Provide technical assistance to interpreters/translators
  • Work with HR to bring on interpreters and translators
  • Assist in the evaluation assessment of interpreter/translators skills
  • Plan and implement in-service training
  • Interpret/translate conversation and written material accurately
  • Maintain a non-judgmental attitude when working with diverse values and beliefs
  • Create and maintain positive relationships with all district partners
  • Communicate appropriately and regularly through email, phone, and in-person meetings
  • Respect and maintain confidential information
  • Continue to improve skills through professional development opportunities
  • Fulfill other related duties as assigned
  • Exhibit regular attendance and punctuality

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • Academic proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and conversing in both English and Spanish
  • Minimum of two years experience in interpreting and translating

  • Demonstrated knowledge of code of ethics
  • Teaching/presenter experience
  • Administrative skills to manage, organize, and coordinate staff, budget, and resources
  • Considerable knowledge of American and Latin cultures
  • Ability to maintain a patient, positive, and persistent attitude
  • Skills in computer programs such as PDF, Word, Excel, Publisher, Google docs
